Chasing The Darkness

The essence of photography may be the capture of light. But where there is light there is darkness. The deep blacks often associated with powerful black and white photography has proved a defining character of the medium. But I choose to shoot in colour and I also choose to chase the deep blacks I call the darkness. The aim is always to combine the power of black with the realism of full range colour.
The technique is conventional and reletively simple. A combination of high quality medium format cameras and some vibrant transparency film provide the colour gamut on which to shoot. Some subtle push processing helps to increase contrast and saturate colours even further. Of course, only nature dictates when light appears and presents you with something worth photographing. But when it does you catch the darkness...
